In addition to executing search warrants, handling barricaded gunmen, and rescuing hostages, tactical personnel are occasionally called upon for various other specialty missions. One such specialty mission is the protection of visiting dignitaries. Also falling into this category is the protection of key witnesses and/or high-risk prisoners. Often called by different names… Executive Protection, Dignitary Protection, Close Protection, Bodyguard, Personal Security Detail (PSD), and various others. This course provides the tactics needed to protect key personnel during static situations, movement through crowds, and motorcade operations. It starts with an introduction to escort formations and surgical shooting techniques, and progresses to protective exercises using role-players. Vehicle operations will be covered as well as route selection and contingency planning. Attendees will be formed into protection teams, varying in size depending upon the threat received and the nature of the assignment. This is a specialty course that covers techniques where officers will be the difference between life and death of their principle. This is a high-intensity course which is physically demanding.
