With patrol rifles as standard issue at many departments, and allowed at most others, officers armed with semi-automatic .223 cal rifles are handling situations at greater distances than in the past when previously armed with a 12 gauge shotgun or a pistol. Many agencies are utilizing officers armed with patrol rifles to secure perimeters on critical incidents. They also provide cover for Tactical Teams on approach to a target building. Therefore, these officers must be well skilled in taking their shots from greater distances than in the past. This course covers some weapon manipulation but participants must be familiar and proficient with their rifle before attending, as most of the course is conducted at distances of 100 yards or greater. This course is designed for the .223 cal semi-auto rifle with iron sights. Optics are permitted, but only if they are utilized and approved by your agency. This is a high-intensity course which is physically demanding. Due to the advanced material presented, any participant wishing to attend must be a graduate of a certified Patrol Rifle course, and have successfully qualified with their weapon at their agency.
