

Dennis Root
Dennis Root has over 27 years of law enforcement experience with 16+ years assigned to the SWAT Team. He recently retired at the rank of Lieutenant. Root has participated in hundreds of entries serving in various capacities: Pointman, Assistant Team Leader, and/or Team Leader. His additional duties included firearms instructor / range master, armorer, and supervisor of all departmental in-service training. Root is an instructor in multiple disciplines including pistol, shotgun, sub-machinegun, assault rifle, CQB, SWAT tactics, and chemical agents. Root is also a use-of-force instructor trainer.
Root has served as an instructor at three regional police academies for both basic recruits and advanced police training. During this time he helped author several SWAT training manuals and two firearms training books. Additionally, he has served on the MCOLES Use of Force / Subject Control committee and the MCOLES Subject Control Standards Development panel.
Prior to his law enforcement career Root proudly served several years in the United States Air Force.
He is a member of the Michigan Tactical Officers Association, National Tactical Officers Association, NRA, and the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors.
Root is an outstanding instructor with extensive experience in both real-world operations and instructing police personnel.
